Details: ASUS ROG STRIX RTX 3090 Ryzen 7 5800X3D paired with a 500 GB Samsung 970 EVO M.2 SSD, followed by two additional 256 GB and 1 TB drives. The exact origin of the hard drives is unknown. I upgraded to a new motherboard (MSI X570 Gaming Pro Carbon WiFi), added RAM (8GB, 32GB, 32GB configuration totaling 82 GB), installed a 2 TB Samsung SSD, and swapped in a NZXT Kraken X63 cooler. Initially everything functioned smoothly until I encountered the “Windows failed to start. A recent hardware change.. etc.” message. I verified RAM placement was correct, then attempted a Windows install on another drive, which also failed—especially on M.2 and SATA storage, even during legacy boot. I updated the BIOS but saw no improvement. I reinstalled Windows on my original 256 GB SATA drive, keeping the old installation in a Windows.old folder. It’s been a frustrating process, especially since I’m upgrading my PC for work and need it operational. I’m unsure if the motherboard is the issue, but after multiple attempts, I’m seeking advice. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated!

No, I didn't reset the CMOS and then attempt to reinstall Windows.

Thanks! You've already tried a few fixes, but the issue persists even after reinstalling Windows. Let me know if you'd like more troubleshooting steps.

Have you attempted to set up Windows on a different storage device?

Yes, it doesn’t work on any of them, even the hard drive. I’ve tried installing Windows on the new 2TB M.2 stick several times, but it keeps saying there’s nothing there. I’m beginning to consider getting a different motherboard.

Essentially, I install Windows via the USB stick using two different versions (USB 2.0 and USB 3.0). After the installation, it restarts and either loads back onto the USB or I change the boot settings to prioritize the 2TB SSD. If I enable UEFI instead of CSM or Legacy boot, only the 500 GB Samsung SSD and hard drive appear.

Something is weird : looking at the MSI page for your board BIOSes (link below) there's no 5/27/22 version as indicated in your BIOS screen, but one on 3/31 (enabling the 5800X3D) then another on 7/06...And their names don't match neither with yours ! Could you try getting the latest one there and flash your BIOS ? https://fr.msi.com/Motherboard/MPG-X570-...FI/support

The BIOS file was last updated at the specified date, and I retrieved it from 7/06/22. The modification occurred on 5/27/22. There was no success, but I’m planning to try the version from 3/31 to check if it resolves the issue.

The 2TB SSD is still not functioning as a boot device.
