I've faced some issues with my PC lately. The disk seems to consume all its space without any clear cause, and it also freezes unexpectedly. I've followed every recommended step—running DISM, chkdsk, checking for viruses, doing a clean boot, boosting virtual memory—but the problem persists. I've also installed new drivers. My SSD (ACER SATA 2.5" SA100, 500GB) is brand new. This situation is really confusing.
Open Task Manager, select "Processes," then click the "Disk" tab. This will list processes by disk usage, helping identify which is consuming the most. It might point to a virus, a failing SSD, or an outdated Windows setup.
It usually involves frequent access to numerous small files, which boosts SSD IO operations per second without much data transfer. This typically occurs because of Windows file indexing or antivirus scanning. As previously noted, you can check the process in Task Manager to identify what’s happening.
No clear cause appears to exist. The SSD is brand new and I’ve performed several tests; it seems unlikely it’s failing. Regarding the Windows setup, DISM and sfc should normally fix issues.
Installed recently and scanned for threats—no issues detected. I’ll attempt a fresh installation of Windows 10.
