System powers off unexpectedly and displays a Q-code 00 message.
Hello everyone, I'm using my current system for about 3.5 years without any issues and suddenly one day while powering it up, it didn't want to boot, and gave me a Q-code 00 error. The CPU cooler fans spun, but the case or GPU fans didn't. I tried to reset CMOS by taking out the battery. After that the case fan started to spin again, but kept on showing the 00 error code. After an hour or two, it booted up, but after using it for a while, it shut down randomly, and started showing the error code again when I tried to power it on. A couple of days later, I took it to a local store. Guy took a look, said the motherboard had a short, did something, and the system booted up. The same day, after using it for a few hours it randomly shut down again, and it started behaving the exact same way again. Went back to that store. Guy said it's a motherboard issue. Usually, it boots if I power it on after some hours of inactivity, but randomly shuts down again soon after. Sometimes, it runs for 10-20-30 minutes before shutting down and showing the 00 code. Sometimes, it shuts down immediately. Even if I properly shut it down while it's working, unplug it, and then try to power it up again, it still shows the error. When the computer actually runs, everything works normally. I've even managed to play some games on it. Temps seem fine. I've tried reseating the CPU, GPU, cooler, tried with one stick of RAM, with and without XMP, but it behaves the same. Here are my specs: CPU: Ryzen 5 5600X Motherboard: ASRock B550 Steel Legend RAM: Corsair 16GB DDR4 3200MHz. GPU: Gigabyte Gaming RX570 (brother took my 3080 about a year and a half ago, I'm waiting for the RTX 5000 series to come out) PSU: Corsair RM750 Cooler: Arctic Freezer 34 eSports Duo Storage: Crucial BX500 240GB SATA SSD (Boot Drive). WD Blue SN570 1TB NVMe. Case: Cooler Master TD500 Mesh Help is very much appreciated.
Verify the power connector for the CPU. Error 00 often points to an issue with the CPU or the motherboard.
Code 00 either end is damaged or the board is faulty. The CPU might be dead, but that doesn’t seem likely here. If it can still post an ID, consider giving the board a thorough clean. Remove all heatsinks and the CMOS battery. Short the power button and clear the CMOS for a couple minutes, then rinse everything with water, making sure it’s fully soaked. Afterward, submerge in a bucket of water for about an hour or two, or wash in the dishwasher without detergent. Finally, let it air dry for a day or two.
