System power down, no recorded events captured the cause.
I was playing The Binding of Isaac and then my computer went blue and shut down. I tried to restart it, but it came back on briefly before turning off again. Later I checked the power supply and failed the paperclip test, so I replaced it with a new one. It worked perfectly afterward. A few hours later it stopped again while I was playing the game. Now it powers on normally, but no event logs appear and the system doesn’t recognize it was off. I’m unsure if a corrupt BIOS or hardware issue is the problem, especially since I can still use it now. This computer was meant to be a gift for my brother, so any advice would mean a lot! Thanks! Edit: Here’s the full parts list for reference... https://pcpartpicker.com/list/8x47Nc Update: It’s not the RAM, I just finished testing everything. Edited February 18, 2023 by Deaths Angel
https://pcpartpicker.com/list/8x47Nc - my parts list There was no click from the PSU, and I've never had trouble with anything like this for the last year that it's been built. I have all of the ram testing right now, I'm not sure how long it'll take. So far, no errors with that. It doesn't actually boot when it turns off, though. There is no post, it just turns fans and lights on for a second, then turns everything back off again.
A compact Ryzen 2 paired with a large air cooler. The setup is typical for Ryzen systems, so make sure your BIOS is up to date. It’s updated more frequently than Intel’s, which might already be handled.
Yeah, I don't know why I say that. But yeah, that was actually the thought behind it, but I don't really think this motherboard is up to the task. I have enough problems with it, as it is. Another reason behind it was noise level. I don't like the whiney in-box coolers. Do you think that these problems could've been caused by constantly having the CPU in turbo? The temps never got high, but maybe it's some instability? It seems to only happen when I play The Binding of Isaac, so maybe it's one of the mods I have installed causing something? Then again, I haven't played anything since I got it running again, today. So it might be something when it has a decent load on it? Another thought is that maybe dirty power is causing some problem with a built-in surge protector? But wouldn't clearing the capacitors be enough to reset that?
What happened to the PSU at that time and what it's doing now? Many M.UI motherboards and BIOS seem questionable, possibly affecting all brands. It might be related to that as well. I'm looking for a more neutral motherboard option—avoiding MSI "pro" boards. The 3600 model doesn't include a "turbo" feature. What exactly was done to it? A faulty motherboard can quickly ruin a CPU or render it non-functional in its current setup.
“Turbo” refers to an old method used in DOS games to make them run faster. It wasn’t a real speed boost but rather a way to adjust timing compatibility. The term has been around for a long time and is no longer common. Ryzen models don’t have turbo, which can be confusing. The idea of turning it off or on is outdated. Please clarify if you’re using an old system.
Checking the details for the 4 sticks and Corsair RAM. I’m unsure if this isn’t the main concern. Could you provide the SKU and version for each kit?
