Hey everyone, I just upgraded my monitor to a 4K 144Hz from 1080p 144Hz after finding a great deal. But now, except for Minecraft, my GPU slows down when switching scenes in most games and stays idle for unpredictable periods. For example, it freezes during intense moments like dying in Overwatch or switching to the death cam in Layers of Fear, loading new areas in Helldivers 2, or even reviving in Destiny 2 causes this issue. As a result, my FPS drops to around 20fps from over 100. I've tried DDU, disabling overclocks, using SFC/scannow and the image repair tool, but nothing fixed it. What might be going on? Thanks ahead.

Gear: RTX 3080 Ti i7-13700K, 64GB DDR5 6000MHz Trident Z Corsair RM850x PSU, all games on M.2 drives, boot drive on SATA SSD.

It's quite unusual! Running the card at full capacity without breaks reveals what Furmark shows. 3DMark serves well for stress tests but often experiences interruptions with scene transitions. Furmark operates smoothly and continuously.

It should display a black loading screen and remain idle since the GPU isn't performing any tasks.

Updated the BIOS version. Also adjusted VBios settings: disabled XMP, removed CMOS battery, reinstalled. For PCI-E X16 4.0 slots, switch to X16 3.0 if applicable.

I ran it for about 25 minutes without any frame drops at all.

The frame rate remains slow once loading is complete, but I can try again.

I've updated the BIOS several times by removing and reinserting the battery. My motherboard only supports a single X16 4.0 port, while the other has an 8x3.0 slot.

Open Device Manager, turn off the Intel iGPU, and verify if the problem continues. If not, you can keep it disabled in Device Manager or adjust it via BIOS. It should already be off by default with a separate GPU, but Windows might attempt to mimic a laptop setup and split tasks between components.

This seems to fix my problem completely—it's strange that changing the monitor causes Windows to switch to IGPU.
