System performance drops suddenly or becomes unresponsive.
Hello. I’m experiencing a problem where my computer briefly freezes and then restarts on its own. I’m uncertain if the GPU is the cause. When the lag lasts more than 3-4 seconds, it doesn’t recover and I have to shut down the system. Occasionally I see the Wattman crash log, but not consistently. It’s frustrating, particularly when drivers crash or during gameplay.
System details:
- OS: Windows 10
- GPU: ASUS Strix RX570 (4GB)
- CPU: AMD Ryzen 3 1200
- RAM: Kingstom Fury 1x8GB
- Motherboard: ASUS Prime A320M-K
- PSU: Silentum PC 500W or 550W
- Recent actions: Completed driver cleanup with ddu tool and Nvidia driver update a year ago.
Please let me know if this could help.
Ensure all drivers, including those for GPUs and BIOS, are current. Observe temperatures while troubleshooting any problems. Check if additional SSD or HDD units resolve the issue during a clean Windows installation. Persistent freezing or crashes likely point to hardware concerns. The main concern I notice is your limited single-channel RAM. Ryzen processors require significant memory, and contemporary OSes like Windows 10 need ample space. A single 8GB module at 2666mhz is insufficient for modern tasks such as office work, web browsing, or gaming. Upgrading to a dual-channel 16GB kit at 3200mhz would greatly improve performance.
