I changed my HyperX Fury to Patriot Viper Steel 2x8GB at 3200MHz. My motherboard only handles up to 2400MHz, so I reduced the speed to match. I saw online that this shouldn’t cause any problems. I chose the faster RAM to prepare for future upgrades, especially a Ryzen processor next year. I haven’t done much gaming benchmarking yet, but it seems the performance has noticeably dropped. Could this be related to the downclock? Maybe adjusting the timings would help. I’m not familiar with RAM timing specs. XMP is turned on. I’m running an i5 7500 and a GTX 1660 with 6GB of memory.

Also, the RAM achieved a 77% score on userbenchmark.com, which aligns with the typical average for 2x8GB 2400 DDR4 RAM. It seems Call of Duty might have received a problematic update for quad-core processors?

It is a probability its the down clock but I'm not sure about that i always recommend having a mobo compatible with the speeds or it will make the ram worse of course

I totally get it, but I went for 16GB since the 8GB wasn’t sufficient anymore

Are you confirming the setup is appropriate for a dual-channel configuration?

It might be better to reduce the clock speed further to 2133MHz, as that was the original memory's frequency.

Ok so basically it looks like it's a Call of Duty problem, because CS and GTA V are running fine just like before.
