System occasionally halts without displaying a blue screen error.
I recently received my motherboard, CPU, and RAM from the seller after they assessed the issues and discovered that my CPU and RAM were defective. They replaced them, but my system remains unstable, freezing randomly and disabling all connected USB devices. The only solution to get it running again is to press the power button until it powers off on its own. My hardware setup includes: CPU – Intel Core I9 13900K, GPU – 24GB GeForce RTX 4090, CPU cooler – Corsair H150I AIO, motherboard – Gigabyte z790x Aourus Elite AX, RAM – 32GB GSKill Trident Z5 DDR5 (2x16GB), storage – 1TB M.2 1TB Samsung 980 Pro PCI Gen4 (Gen 5 slot), 2TB M.2 1TB Samsung 980 PCI Gen4 (Gen 4 slot), and a 2TB SSD. I attached an event display for reference, as the seller now requests sending my entire PC for inspection. Currently, only the PSU hasn’t been tested, and I suspect it might be the issue. The case and storage also passed previous checks, so they likely aren’t faulty. I’m trying to resolve this without external devices since everything worked on another machine.
Have you adjusted your RAM settings in the BIOS? Lower the speeds and see if freezing persists. If it continues, the issue isn’t the RAM speed. Check the Events for application or kernel errors and consider reinstalling Windows to resolve the problem. If you lack Samsung Magician, obtain it for firmware updates on your hard drive. I’ve heard issues with Samsung Nvme drives that lead to early failure if not updated. Use HWINFO to track temperatures; a CPU temperature above 100°C during idle indicates a concern. I’ll probably chuckle if the fan heatsink sticker is still attached after installation. Updated January 27, 2025 by WackySpace
the sticker won't stick to the heatsink because my pc isn't a prebuilt unit. when i send my hardware for testing, i only bring the cpu and ram along, leaving the motherboard for evaluation. i've attached a hardware info recording with wallpaper engine running in the background, as the Samsung Magician noted a patch exists for my second m.2, though it's not the Windows version. i used that patch on another pc without problems. now i'm lowering my ram speed to see if it helps, but i can't easily trigger the problem. reinstalling windows is possible since i don't have a usb drive for installation on hwinfo.csv.
I already have an answer to the RAM speed, but unfortunately it wasn’t the problem because my computer kept crashing again. Something I overlooked is that every time it crashes, I hear a crackling noise through my headset. If I recall right, my setup has an exposed USB header with loose pins coming from the one plugged into the motherboard—it might be causing a short circuit to the board somehow.
someone else might have faced this problem with Intel CPUs on the 13th or 14th generation using a Gigabyte motherboard. You should manually restrict the power your CPU receives, but the patch doesn’t do this and it risks damaging the CPU again. I’m aware of this because the seller rechecked my hardware and discovered a new issue even after just one day of use. After some research, they learned that my motherboard doesn’t limit the power drawn by the CPU, causing it to draw more than permitted.
I refer to the visible USB connector with its pin layout. Do you have a photo or any additional details to help identify the issue?
