Did you connect two external drives to the computer and then take one off? Have you recently switched from a traditional hard drive to a solid-state drive? Did you just set up Ubuntu or another system on your storage device? Providing more specifics would really assist.

It's a machine I recently assembled, using an old hard drive that ran Windows 7, and it's not the sole storage device.

Set up an alternative operating system currently available, start it, then create a brand-new Windows 7 installation or try to obtain the CD key and format it with that disc.

The system used a reserved partition that is absent or damaged. Did the hard drive exist in an environment with multiple storage options?

Entering the Windows 7 key will adjust the boot loader accordingly.
