I recall past instances of CPU thermal shutdowns (not on this machine). When the CPU hit its maximum limit, it shut down immediately. Recently, I've experienced more frequent shutdowns or restarts—like the system restarting on its own. Everything seems to cut off instantly, as if unplugging the power cord. I recorded one shutdown using HWinfo and found no temperature spikes. CPU, GPU, motherboard voltages appear normal. All data points look consistent. My only thought is it might be a power supply issue. Would that mean replacing the PSU? Edit: Updated. Updated: Ran Furmark and Prime95 tests—no problems. It seems completely random. The PC can idle and shut down or run under full load. Either way, it works fine. I also checked the Event Viewer and found around 10016 and 6155 events logged. Update 2: Removed filters on the PSU; it might have been lacking airflow and shutting down. PC logging.CSV

This would also be the initial thought I’d reach, but before you immediately purchase a new PSU, I’d check the Event Viewer for any warnings. Also, with a modular PSU you might want to test another cable or port. I experienced comparable problems when switching GPUs—adding just one extra cable resolved the issue instead of needing an 8+8 PCIe connection.

Used the same PC for roughly seven years. Maintained the same GPU for about five years. No significant changes have occurred recently that would explain the current issues. Specifics: 8700k, 1070 Hybrid. I've also experimented with a different power cable, but the problem persists.

I wasn't aiming to link my experience directly with yours. Instead, I wanted to emphasize that devices can behave unexpectedly and it's wise to explore any available options. If you've already tested another cable or port, that might not help. It could be worth considering a fresh PSU and seeing if it resolves the problem. If not, you might still return it.

Which power supply unit? Also, could there be a warm area the sensors miss? Have you recently cleaned and repasted your GPU? Did you re-paste the motherboard chipset?

Everything is running smoothly, and the RAM is sufficient. What are your specifications?

I don’t feel confident enough to change the GPU settings. Still, temperatures stay below 50 most of the time. With the data, nothing seems to be reading high, even remotely.

All assets are fully valued. XMP has been active for the last five years.

PSU appears to be a Corsair Ax760i platinum model.
