Hello everyone, I'm feeling really frustrated about this issue. My Ryzen 7 1700 has been acting up lately—hard crashes without any error messages, just a sudden freeze followed by a reboot. After rebooting, my monitors stop working and I have to turn off the power again. It seems to happen mostly when gaming isn't on, but sometimes even opening Steam alone triggers it. Old Ryzen, what came before you? Do you have the latest BIOS updates? Maintaining up-to-date BIOS has become essential for Ryzen systems recently. If your BIOS is fresh, check if any of the storage devices you’re using are nearly full—ideally under 80% capacity—or run a few memory tests with memtest86 to ensure your RAM is functioning properly. I owned an FX6300 with a completely different board before. It seems the (used) board I’m trying to update might not work with the latest files ASRock recommends for Summit Ridge. I’m a bit unsure and thought about skipping the update, but I’ll try it again once finished. They’ve mentioned this PSU maker is notorious, though I’m not sure which manufacturers are reliable. Also, my budget isn’t large for such projects.
There exist PSU tierlists that provide guidance. The most recent version I checked was outdated, though this might have changed. These lists are generally focused on North America and Europe, while PSUs from Southeast Asia represent a different category (which is surprising given their regional origin). Not all organizations export to Europe or the Americas, so longevity isn’t guaranteed. Poor performance usually signals shorter lifespan and higher risk of failure when issues arise. A common guideline is to avoid using a PSU beyond its warranty or after five years—whichever applies. Some manufacturers don’t even meet these standards. The IS has an 80+ rating system; 80+ white (meaning no metal name) is often seen as low quality, though premium metals can be exceptions. This could evolve.
