System halts unexpectedly then displays a black screen briefly.
Hey everyone! I'm trying to figure out when this started, but it's been a few weeks now (around 3-4 months back). It's happened three or four times already. The main thing is the screen freezes, and for a short moment I can still hear the computer running and move the mouse, but it won't respond to anything. After that, the mouse freezes too, then the sound stops and the screen goes black in about 4 seconds. This only occurs when a game or application is running in the background, not when the PC is idle or doing simple tasks. It was about 30 minutes ago, while I was playing Dead By Daylight and using Steam Overlay.
CPU temperatures were between 34-38°C when idle and around 60°C under load. GPU temps ranged from 41-45°C at idle to 70°C during load. These readings were taken while I was using Camomile for overclocking.
So far, this only happened while playing Marvel Rivals and Dead By Daylight. I've tried a few things: thought it was overheating, checked the CPU and cleaned it, cleaned the RAM, updated GPU and Windows, and even had the PC run under higher voltage to silence the fans and save energy. I also installed MSI Afterburner but wasn't sure how to use it properly.
My build details: OS is Windows 11 Pro, DirectX 12, Intel i9-11900K (3.50GHz), 32GB RAM, SSD 1.8TB and 465.8GB GPU. I'm using an MSI MPG Z490 GAMING EDGE with ATX ATX motherboard and Corsair RM850. The PSU is YALL can tease me for not doing much! Thanks for any advice you can give.
Hi. PSU didn't recognize the listing. If you remember all your undervoltage configurations or can save them, BIOS might work. I suggest going back to stock and resetting the BIOS, adjusting memory timing like XMP, and testing it—though it'll use a bit more power. If it runs smoothly, we'll know what's wrong. You mentioned downloading MSI Kombustor from Geeks3D and monitoring voltages and temperatures while it runs. You said you were planning that, so you have the software. If not, hwinfo64 could be useful. Hope this gives you a good starting point.
Sure, let me clarify. Could you restate the question so I can better understand what you mean?
You can choose either option; it doesn't really matter which you select.
Select the runs tree test option or benchmark at the specified resolution.
Uncertain about what I'm expecting. I completed the benchmark in about seven minutes and stopped because I wasn't sure of the results or if my PC was shutting down. I observed the GPU reaching 71 degrees and power usage exceeding 100%. I'm not sure if that's typical. Also, does the benchmark continue running indefinitely until something changes, or does it have a defined end?
