Hi there. I previously had a smooth workgroup setup without issues. Recently, the power went out and when it came back, the group stopped functioning. It was mainly used for downloading torrents from my laptop to a network drive on my desktop. The group includes both a laptop and a desktop; the desktop isn’t reachable from the laptop, though the laptop is accessible from the desktop. I replaced the WiFi dongle on the desktop and tried various Microsoft fixes, but formatting the desktop was also attempted without success. My final option is reformatting the laptop, which would be quite time-consuming. Could anyone suggest alternative solutions? Your help would be greatly appreciated.

SPECS:
- Laptop: Lenovo Y740 / Windows 10 / Realtek PCIe GBE
- Desktop: Windows 10 / TP-Link Archer T4U

The issue likely lies in the network configuration. Verify the firewall settings and ensure the connection path is valid. Test by pinging the server address directly to confirm responsiveness. If the problem persists, check IP addressing and routing.

Hello, thank you for your message. The firewall isn't active on either PC. This is the issue I encounter when adding the network drive: The folder appears valid (just the drive letters). When attempting to ping the IP or hostname, the error message shows: "The actual error when trying to connect through the network tab:"

Did you set up a share named "D"? Please check its permissions. When you view your second screenshot by clicking browse, do you see the desktop PC listed? This might cause problems if the desktop is set to a public network instead of a home or private network.

You're using the drive letters as shares. Here are the details you shared: The PC appears in the browse list, yet you still encounter the same network error when trying to open it. Both the laptop and desktop are connected to a private network. On both systems, the network settings seem correct, but you're not sure what's causing the issue. It's frustrating to figure this out.

Are you sure you don’t have any login credentials set up? You can’t log in without a password (the final choice in your screenshot labeled "password protected sharing"). Try using the command line again, but you’ll still need a username and password. net use w: \\desktop-bram\d /user:XXXXXX
