Experienced a problem a month back where windows would freeze and required a hard restart. Reinstalling fixed it until now. I attempted another reinstall but now it locks during setup. All my attempts: removed graphics card, used integrated graphics, installed one stick of RAM in various slots, checked all power connectors, tried different USB ports for Windows 10 and 11—one was brand new, CPU BIOS updated to latest, and even downgraded a storage drive one at a time while unplugging USBs except mouse, keyboard, and Windows USB. XMP is off, BIOS is 100% default.

Did you switch to several partitions or just one for the Windows setup? If you’re working with the 980 and haven’t refreshed the firmware, it might have failed:

Absolutely, consider adding it to a basic SATA setup to test its performance.

I mentioned in my list that I attempted one drive at a time. The Firmware problem was with the 980 pros, but I also verified the firmware in Samsung Magician and found no updates when I first learned about the issue. I tried installing it on the 860 EVO and still got the same outcome.

Likely faulty CPU, RAM, or motherboard. Probably not the RAM since both sticks should function. It could also be the power supply failing, leading to instability. Begin by swapping components one by one or bring it to a repair shop for testing.
