System freezes prior to launching Windows
Update: The event viewer reports several critical issues. Recently, my system began crashing upon launching Windows. I can access the BIOS without problems, but entering Windows requires restarting multiple times. I’m using Windows 10. I’ve tried resetting the BIOS, updating drivers, and reinstalling Windows, but the problem continues. All connections are secure, RAM is properly seated, GPU is fully installed, I removed and reattached the CPU cooler, and I wiped the drive before reinstalling.
Hi there, I've faced the same issue for the last four months. So far, no software solution has been found. I've already changed the mainboard and am currently handling the RMA process for my CPU. What I'd suggest first is checking the error code in the Windows Event Manager. The error ID 41 power-kernel might be linked to any of your components. If you have access to another functioning PC, you could compare all parts there. I hope this gives you some guidance and that you can resolve it within the next four months. Good luck!
When it fails, do you see a blue screen of death or immediately a black screen? This suggests a power supply or storage problem is likely.
The display goes dark without a blue screen, usually the system reboots on its own, or the screen stays black until you force restart it.
It might help to attempt a few approaches. Start by launching Windows in safe mode, which can prevent strange driver problems. Then consider a BIOS reset to the default settings if there are issues with RAM stability or other settings. Avoid re-enabling Expo mode; the AM5 chipset, particularly the 7800X3D, is known for running poorly at high memory speeds. If these steps don’t resolve the issue, try resetting using the jumpers—on my system this involved touching two pins with a metal object. Check your motherboard documentation online for pin locations; some boards even have buttons for this. It’s also useful to connect your monitor directly to the motherboard to confirm if the GPU is the problem. It could help to disconnect all but one RAM stick and test in another slot—this may reveal hardware faults. My guess is a GPU fault, but we should at least identify the right components first.
Is Expo turned on in your system? Please turn it off if needed. Some operating system problems are linked to EXPO and memory usage.
