You're facing issues with Steam freezing your system after a week of use. It seems the problem might be related to driver updates or hardware compatibility. Check if your graphics card drivers are up to date and ensure they match your system requirements. Also, verify that your CPU and motherboard support Steam's latest versions. If the issue persists, consider updating your system firmware or consulting official Steam support for Linux-specific guidance.

first ensure your drivers are updated. open a terminal and run these commands: sudo apt update sudo apt upgrade sudo apt autoremove sudo reboot. try again.

Usually yes. This should function. But if you're not confident with the command line, updating software through the store might be a better option, though I'm not entirely sure about that.

I usually start by running programs from the terminal to check for issues. Sometimes errors appear there that aren't visible in the graphical interface. Instead of a full reset, using Alt + SysRQ + REISUB is a safer option unless the system is completely locked. A short guide on this method.

I wasn't familiar with Alt + SysRQ REISUB; I'll attempt it next time it freezes. I'll also try launching from the terminal.

Executing the update commands from the terminal didn't resolve the issue. As soon as I began downloading a game, it would freeze once more. I also attempted Alt + SysRQ REISUB, but it didn't help. When I opened Steam via the terminal, a warning appeared: "Using default/fallback debugger launch for the fifth line down." It started downloading and then froze again.

The system occasionally stops unexpectedly while handling different activities.

Up to now, nothing has happened. It freezes only when steam is active and downloading. Stopping the download works without issues.
