System freezes but audio continues to work.
I'm experiencing difficulties with my computer, often encountering crashes where both screens become unresponsive, though audio remains functional. The only solution has been performing a hard reboot. I've tried using the shift+ctrl+win+B command to restart the GPU driver after advice from someone. Additionally, white flashing occurs on the screen, especially when using YouTube or similar video players in Chrome. This issue began after upgrading my graphics card this year. After some troubleshooting, I received a replacement unit. The first GPU is an MSI RX 6750XT, while the second is an ASRock RX6750 XT Phantom. I recently installed fresh Windows and used DDU to clear drivers without success. The rest of my system includes an MSI B450M Mortar Titanium AMD 5800X3D (upgraded in November 2022), Corsair Vengeance LPX 16GB 3200MHz (two 8GB modules), a 1.35V Fractal Design ION Gold 850W power supply, and a WD Black SN750 1TB M.2 SSD. A selection of HDDs and SSDs are connected via SATA, while another PCI-E slot is occupied by an Elgato Game HD60Pro or similar device. I'm hoping for some guidance on resolving this matter. The problem is beginning to impact my mental well-being.
I'm experiencing similar issues too—both screens freeze while audio stays on. It fluctuates, sometimes every few minutes. It seems to occur during gaming sessions only. I've encountered this with GTA Online and Minecraft Dungeons; Deep Rock Galactic works well otherwise. When audio loops, it's usually game-related sounds like car crashes, but music keeps playing. Initially, I thought it was just a memory glitch, but it happened more recently during a Discord call. After freezing, my friends kept talking over me, cutting off mid-sentence. It turns out Discord is still running and my microphone stopped working. About 30 seconds pass before all sound disappears. I'm hoping someone can explain what's going on. Also, I tried reseating the GPU, thinking it might be a power issue. My Zotac 1080 AMP has a green PCIe indicator light that turns red when the power cable is disconnected. It also lit up when I touched the cable, suggesting a faulty connection. I plan to replace the cable soon and will check if that helped. Overall, I'm unsure what's causing this.
You encounter errors or critical events in the Event Viewer under the System tab, such as application failures, service issues, and system warnings indicating problems with the operating environment.
For me, the Nvidia card and the first AMD card was used on 2 different PSUs, and I have used my old 1060 without issue while waiting for a replacement for the original AMD card I purchased. So I can't believe this would be the issue. I am not really getting anything that I personally can make out anything from. I had a freeze like this earlier today when playing Diablo 4. I've attached a snip of the Event Viewer below, the critical is just that it wasnt a clean shutdown, and the error is just that it had an unexpected shutdown.
Errors and critical issues detected. Data limited to recent logs.
It seems these records might disappear after a restart. It’s a good idea to save them now so you can retrieve them later. They should remain accessible for a few weeks unless deleted.
