System freezes at maximum temperature Processor overheating issue detected Need to check cooling or hardware status
System details: Processor is Intel i7-11700 (non-K), RAM supplied by Corsair Vengeance RGB Pro 16GB (2x8GB) AIO, power supply from MSI MAG Series CORELIQUID 240R PSU, cooler model Cooler Master V650 SFX Gold Full Modular (650W), graphics card NVIDIA GTX 1060 3GB, operating system Windows 11 Home (64-Bit), case from Cooler Master NR200P (AIO side-mounted).
Starting up, CPU reaches 100°C in 5-10 seconds and stays there until the machine is turned off. Occasionally it idles around 60-65°C before slowly increasing to 100°C within about 30 seconds. AIO mounting plates feel warm, as do the CPU block and a short section of tubing near it; the rest of the AIO remains cool. This issue began recently, causing idle temperatures to drop from 30-35°C to 55-60°C, but then rise again to 100°C during basic tasks like web browsing or word processing.
Initially assumed MSI Dragon Center was the cause; removing it resolved the spikes, though idle temps didn’t normalize. I’ve unmounted and remounted the AIO with fresh thermal paste multiple times, even changing its position. There’s also a loud clicking noise during startup—possibly from the AIO, which I need to investigate further.
HWMonitor shows pump speeds exceeding 4000 RPM on the PUMP header. I’ll verify the CPU block alignment again later, but this is my current situation.
Appreciate your assistance ahead of time!
I agree with the perspective shared earlier. If it remains covered under warranty, I recommend initiating a return merchandise authorization. Otherwise, consider exploring alternative solutions. It’s improbable that other parts are significantly affecting the CPU temperatures in this way. Just like with any item, purchasing wisely or opting for a second chance is advisable.
I wasn't aware of the recall either. Appreciate the update! I've already placed an order for a budget air cooler to keep me going until the AIO is fixed, and I'll definitely consider filing a return if needed. Also, this is my first experience with water cooling. Should I stick with MSI or look for alternatives based on my setup and requirements? Thanks!
MSI water coolers? From the recalls and problems, I’d steer clear. A 280mm AIO is best fit for your case size. 240mm AIOs work like premium single tower and mid-range dual tower units. 280mm AIOs match high-end dual towers and 360mm models. 420mm AIOs are top-tier, only matched by custom setups. My go-to picks are EKWB AIOs. For budget options, consider the Arctic Cooling Liquid Freezer II series.
Got it! Here’s a revised version of your message:
I appreciate the suggestions. Also, I reinstalled the stock cooler today. The idle temps have dropped back to 30-35°C, which is surprisingly cool, confirming it was the AIO. I’m not sure why I didn’t try that earlier, but it shows how much we rely on these big companies. Thanks again for your support. This is my first post here, and it’s been a great experience.
