Never realized RAM could trigger these kinds of problems linked to certain apps and graphics effects, especially outside stress tests. I’ll check each stick individually—8GB should cover running those older games for the whole duration. Regarding the PSU, I suspect it might be the cause; perhaps power spikes from the GPU when the driver downscales resolutions cause instability. Even then, it’s not consistent. I can run a flight sim with full oceanic routes at resolutions higher than my monitor without issues. However, rendering an old AC game at more than native resolution triggers a crash. It’s tough to pinpoint the problem due to this inconsistency.

I faced this problem and decided to reinstall Windows completely, which resolved the issue.

I understand you can always attempt this again. It resolved the issue for me once.

I plan to handle that soon. I’ll tackle the seasonal cleanup, but right now I’ll take everything apart and reassemble it, installing a new Windows version. In the meantime, I’ll continue testing RAM and power settings.

I need to mention that you were fortunate to have New AMD motherboards and still faced many problems.

Ok, tested it with only one of the sticks, one at a time, in different slots (and without XMP). The issue is still there. I've done the sensible thing and installed a game (AC Brotherhood) in wich the crashes happens during menu navigation with an almost certainty, reducing the time I need to test things out. The crashes happens all the way from 4K down to 1440p. When I set my native monitor resolution (1080p), thus while not using AMD VSR, the game works flawlessly, and the PC doens't crash. At this point, should I open a ticket with AMD? Or it is pointless, since this issue doesn't seem to be wide spread? Because it's strange that only when VSR is being used, in certain games (almost all of them DX9), the issue appears. The only non DX9 games that has this issue is BeamNG drive. Other games, no matter if DX10, DX11, DX12 or Vulkan, never showed this issue. But lots of other DX9 games don't show the issue as well. And, since I'm a nostalgic a hole, I play lots of them upscaled to 4K with VSR. AM5? Guess what. I'm planning to jump to it by late autumn/early 2024, since I wanted to build myself a new machine for work.

Both my Asus Strix and Crosshairs are refusing to accept the BIOS update.

I believe the cost reflects the lower quality components. Performance is quick, but the software and drivers can be quite frustrating. I've faced this issue multiple times since setting up the system in January 2020.

They weren't that affordable, right? The boards were nearing the end of their lifespan but mainly due to insufficient RAM support for the AM5 standard. I’d suggest waiting a few years before diving in. They’ve released BIOS updates every month since it was launched five months ago.

I could simply purchase a new GPU by the end of the year and wait for the next AM5 generation to arrive. However, I don’t want to veer too far from the main topic. My current focus is just reinstalling Windows. If other solutions aren’t available soon, I’ll proceed with it later and update this post.
