System freezes after ending a game and fails to start without resetting CMOS settings.
I just put the new AIO cooler on my girlfriend’s CPU. At first I tested it in the kitchen because there wasn’t much space on her desk. It worked perfectly then. After putting the panels back in, I took it back to her desk. Initially it wouldn’t power on at all. All the LEDs would flash and the fans would spin for about a second before cutting off power again. Eventually I decided to reset the CMOS after re-seating everything, and it turned back on. Once I logged in, I tried launching a game so I could check the temperatures. Everything seemed normal until I closed the game and it froze. I was able to move program windows around but couldn’t interact with any programs or open Task Manager. So I manually shut down the PC, and the same problem occurred—lights would flicker and stop again until I cleared the CMOS. It won’t boot unless I do that (only after a crash). I’ve tried many things so far: updating DDU, installing a clean GPU driver, running an SFC scan and repair, flashing the latest BIOS, re-seating components again, inspecting CPU pins for debris or damage, cleaning the socket with IPA, and even running memtest. I’m trying to remember what I did, but it’s getting harder. I’m really frustrated and hope someone can help me figure this out. I’ll share my specs in the replies too.
Ryzen and compatible boards often face RAM stability problems when the board manufacturer's QVL isn't adhered to. It's recommended to verify your RAM SKU with MSI's QVL for your exact board type. If it doesn't appear, this could indicate a RAM stability concern.
It took some time for the new setup to behave properly... then it caused a lot of frustration for a few months. The replacement RAM matched the original in terms of density, storage, speed, and voltage. However, not all boards and RAMs work well together.
That's quite unusual! I might consider exchanging her RAM with mine since we share the same amount. Appreciate your prompt responses—I'll give it a try.
They're the same speed and capacity, just not identical kits. Got it!
It’s possible the problem might appear again if it isn’t already recorded. This could affect how often and where issues show up. I noticed two separate problems with the same setup on different boards using different processors. That helped me understand the situation.
Vengeance LPX 3200 and Ryzen show some major issues. I’ve seen this firsthand. Frequent strange actions and crashes are common.
