I increased my RAM from 16gb to 32gb some time ago without any problems until I began using modded Minecraft with friends. During crashes, it reports memory allocation failure and Chrome says it can't open a tab due to insufficient memory. On another monitor, the task manager shows full 32gb but only 16gb is marked as used, which still causes crashes. After upgrading, I received the same setup, just needed to turn off DOCP temporarily and re-enable it once the new RAM was installed. The hardware specs are: Rog B450-F gaming Ryzen 5 3600x, Strix 3070-ti Corsair Vengeance 3200MHz.
Did you switch from 2x8 or 1X16GB to 2x16GB? Or did you combine a single 16GB with another 16GB to reach 2x16GB? One of the RAM modules might be faulty or not connecting correctly. Simply run MemTest one stick at a time. If the incorrect RAM isn’t detected in BIOS, it could cause issues, but it’s easy to identify.
You might want to check the original pair first, but I recommend trying the newer ones you added separately. If there are no issues, it could mean the motherboard memory controller is having trouble handling all four RAM sticks, so consider using the slower default timings.
After swapping each stick separately, only the original ones worked. I wondered if upgrading without disabling docp or installing the new ones properly caused the issue. I reinstalled the original pair, turned off docp, removed and reinserted them in order, and it finally booted. Then I installed both pairs together, reactivated docp, and everything functioned correctly. Now I can use 18GB without crashes, run a server, keep my camera on, and open multiple Chrome tabs. Still unsure why the system displayed 32GB and ran smoothly despite the mixed speeds.
