System failure following CPU upgrade
I changed my CPU from an i3 4170 to a xeon e3 1270 v3 and the computer began shutting down unexpectedly. When I ran Cinebench R23 it worked perfectly, no issues. Temperatures climbed close to 90°C but I’m still going to swap out the original Intel cooler. I also started a game briefly and it functioned normally, yet when I ended it the machine crashed. The monitor loses power, the PC stays on but can’t operate anything, so I have to press the power button to turn it off. Audio problems persist on both headphones and speakers—there’s crackling, popping, or static when sound plays. Before: CPU – Intel i3-4170; Motherboard – Gigabyte H81M-S; RAM – 16GB; GPU – Sapphire Pulse RX550; PSU – 750W (no brand); After: CPU – Intel Xeon E3-1270-V3; same components. Things I’ve tried: reset CMOS, re-seat RAM and other parts; updated Windows, reinstalled OS, adjusted BIOS settings, changed TDRDelay, refreshed chipset drivers, updated GPU drivers. I haven’t touched the BIOS yet. Could it be the PSU that’s causing the problem? If so, would a 600W 80+ Bronze unit from CoolerMaster or DeepCool suffice? Also, I’m thinking about upgrading the GPU to an RX 5600XT or GTX 1070.
