I just upgraded my processor from a Ryzen 1600 to a Ryzen 7 5800X3D. Before installing the new one, I updated the BIOS and chipset drivers. When I launched Outer Worlds: Spacer's Choice Edition with unlimited FPS, the game would crash after about five seconds. The issue varied—sometimes it displayed a black screen and forced a reboot, other times it showed just a single frame before shutting down completely. At times, hotkeys like Alt+Tab or Ctrl+Alt+Delete didn’t function while everything froze. Sea of Thieves was similar; I received an error about the GPU driver crashing. When I limited FPS to 75 (matching my monitor’s refresh rate), everything worked fine. After reinstalling the GPU drivers using DDU, I managed to play Outer Worlds for roughly ten minutes at unlimited FPS before it crashed again. Sea of Thieves still crashes when I start a session, but my GPU and CPU temperatures were normal. I ran benchmarks on all components and didn’t see any crashes. I also performed a memory test with MemTest86 via CMD and swapped RAM slots (using only two of four), but that didn’t help. Enabling or disabling XMP settings made no difference. Could it be that higher FPS is causing problems, or the CPU doesn’t support this RAM model? I might remove one RAM stick to test or return the CPU to the store for a replacement, or buy new RAM—I’m running out of options. PC setup: GPU – Asus TUF RTX 3080 CPU – Ryzen 7 5800X3D CPU cooling – Be Quiet! Shadow Rock 3 RAM – Kingston DDR4 32GB (2x16GB) at 3200MHz FURY BEAST Black (currently at 2800MHz, unstable at higher speeds) Motherboard – Asus TUF GAMING B450-PLUS II Power supply – CHIEFTEC Proton 1000W SSD – Samsung 980 V-NAND MLC 1TB M.2 P.S. I tried Dota 2 with unlimited FPS, but the game capped at 240. I didn’t encounter any crashes. P.S. Once my wallpaper engine crashed and one game reported the GPU driver was dead, it wasn’t an issue with my old CPU.

I’m okay with 1080p at 75fps, but I think a fresh 2K 144Hz display would be better. I’m worried it might fail at those settings, so I’d like to upgrade and avoid the problems now.

Did you switch to the newest BIOS or an older version? Many users stick with the first supported BIOS instead of the latest. The current GPU vBios? Check this link: https://www.asus.com/motherboards-compon...10G-GAMING

Right now the system isn't running smoothly at those high settings. It might switch to safe mode and ask for adjustments. I also noticed I never had a chance to use the GPU at full power because of CPU limitations, which could point to a GPU issue too. However, all components in this build are recent, and the BIOS is up to date.

Verify your RAM by running Memtest86+ or Passmark Memtest86; it could be faulty. Also inspect the CPU installation—could a bent pin cause issues? Re-seat and repaste if needed. A DDR4 3200 kit should function properly with a 5800X3D memory controller.

I ran memtest86 and it succeeded. Then I tried playing with uncapped FPS without any crashes. Not sure if the CPU took time to settle or if the test caused issues. Another strange thing happening with my PC today. Thanks for the reply.
