I assembled this setup in 2019 and experienced minimal problems. By September 30th I encountered an unusual issue—possibly someone can guide me. I was playing Cyberpunk 2077 when my screen would freeze briefly, then turn completely black. After a short delay, I received a "no input" alert and the monitors shut off. My PC remained powered on; RGB lights stayed on on the components and keyboard. Next, either the system stayed in that state until I powered it down or I had to press the power button on the PSU. Pressing keys or mouse buttons made no difference. Eventually, I had to flip the switch on the power supply unit. The PC restarted and returned to the login screen. Windows and graphics drivers were up to date, no changes needed. I installed OpenHardwareMonitor to monitor temperatures during gameplay. CPU and GPU temperatures were normal. All 16GB of RAM didn’t behave as expected while watching YouTube—didn’t trigger even when playing Fallout 4 or Armored Core VI for an hour. I haven’t tried reseating the graphics card, would that help? My hardware details are: Windows 10 Home, ASUS ROG Strix Z390-F (1105 x64). I assume the latest BIOS is installed; couldn’t locate any downloads online. Intel i7-8700K (Stock), 2x8GB Corsair Vengeance RGB Pro (Auto), EVGA 2080Ti Black Edition (stock), Samsung 970 EVO M.2 2280 500GB boot drive, Corsair RM750 (750W 80 Gold+).
Outdated BIOS info on ROG Strix Z390. Limited RAM won't cause crashes. Power supply might be marginal. I'd begin by checking the system's power consumption. Should I run a stress test with Prime95 and Furmark, or perform an OCCT PSU test?
It seems you're dealing with some technical issues. The problem might be related to your power supply unit (PSU). The tests indicate instability under load, especially during high-performance tasks. Updating the BIOS could help, but if the symptoms persist, the PSU itself may need replacement.
You haven’t modified any BIOS settings before. You likely copy the file to a USB stick and install it there. For updates, you should apply each release from the current version up to the newest available, not just the latest single update.
Opened the BIOS and discovered an easy update utility there. It upgraded to version 1802, which is the latest release. Managed to run CP2077 for a short time before it crashed again. The update didn’t resolve the issue. It seems a fresh system might be necessary.
We'll start with the newest bios. After that, we'll identify the next actions.
It seems my ability to capture keystrokes is lost when prompted to press F2 or del. The keyboard only responds briefly before the login screen appears. I miss the window for entering BIOS. Possibly a faulty motherboard or SSD is the issue. It crashes after startup. The ROG icon loads with a BIOS prompt, then the loading window appears (swirling dots). Once complete, the screen goes dark and the keyboard/mouse stop responding. I had to turn off the power switch on the PSU to shut it down. I removed the card and connected the motherboard to the monitor—it behaves normally. Likely a bad motherboard? Updated October 3, 2023 by Hydraengineer
