It doesn't seem important to me. But a search on Google suggests you might be using a package manager. Press ctrl+c to end the task.

Did you press the button after checking the console? You should keep the Ctrl key pressed while clicking. It seems the update is likely refreshing your repository list. Wouldn't it be better to wait for it to complete?

I ended up exiting the application by pressing Alt + F4, but now I’m stuck on the localhost login screen.

? If your in a console and its asking to login, then login with your username and password. I have no idea what your doing or necessarily talking about. You have given very minimal information to go on. Commands used or screenshots would be helpful.
