I put in a new heatsink today. Since it’s an AM4 model, the cooler pulled the CPU out of its place. The MX-4 turned into a solid block, so I had to remove it carefully. Once it came loose, it flew into the open area of my PC and hit the hard drive bays. The pins bent, and my brother straightened them just enough for it to fit back in. I used a toothbrush and some water earlier to remove the thermal paste from the pins (maybe it didn’t dry completely?). Nothing is working. I’m sure the PC is getting power because the little white light on my STRIX 1060 is on, but when I try to turn it on, nothing happens. No fans spin, and the HDD doesn’t start either.
when working on an AM4 socket, avoid simply using a cooling block. if the screws are loose, gently twist it forward and backward until it releases its hold and comes off. it seems you made several mistakes, but that's part of the learning process. remove the CPU and let it dry for a few days—avoid water, use alcohol instead for cleaning. if conditions are right, it might work again. inspect the pins carefully to ensure they're properly connected; they're easier to see from the sides. if everything looks correct, consider replacing the CPU.
