System failure after installation Ryzen 7 2700 with MSI B450i encountered a crash
Hay, my specs are as follows - PSU - Cooler Master Thunder 450 Watts CPU - Ryzen 7 2700 (stock cooler) Mobo - MSI B450i gaming plus ac GPU - Asus ROG Strix RX 570 4GB RAM - 2 * 8gb Ballistix, using XMP profile 2993mhz, CL14 Storage - Samsung Evo 860 280GB Windows 10 About the crashes - I've noticed that using OC Gaming feature of my motherboard (not manual overclock) can occasionally cause my system to crash a few minutes after booting up. After the crash the CPU debug led on my motherboard lights up and it doesn't restart directly, I have to reset the computer manually. The mobo OC clocks my CPU to 3.6 Ghz (from the stock 3.2GHz). The restart usually fixes the issue, but today it kinda persisted. Just disabling the OC gaming feature didn't lead to any crash. I'm using the XMP profile of my RAM though it's rated for 3000Mhz so I don't think that's the issue. So, I think manually overclocking would be a nice start. But the CPU LED is kinda throwing me off. I believe I installed it correctly and admittedly I had bit of problem when mounting the cooler (had to use more force than I'm comfortable with) but that seemed to be the case for the stock Wraith Spire cooler. Could it be possible that my PSU is the culprit, or is it the OC? It's an old unit, around 7 years old I believe. I was considering getting a new 750 watt, modular PSU but I have to save up for that, as majority of my budget was spent on the components themselves lol. Running my PC in open-test bench style with support for the heavy GPU.
Opened the running benchmark, previously it was around 60, now it's nearly double, and the machine crashes in about two minutes after startup. Would it be wise to test a different XMP profile?
I configured the RAM to 2666 CL14 and ran Prime95. Initial temperatures were around 60°C for the first 5–10 minutes, then stabilized at about 69°C after 58 minutes. The default CPU core voltage is 1.368 volts—this is quite high for typical desktop builds.
It seems better to keep performance active rather than letting it sit unused.
