Previously this evening, the power fluctuated multiple times and my computer wasn't connected to a UPS. At first, the flickers didn’t appear to affect anything. Later, the PC shut down abruptly without warning (hard stop). I turned off the power, let it rest for roughly ten minutes, then tried to restart three times: the screens flickered briefly (about twenty seconds), then another hard stop occurred. After that, the system booted and worked properly, though the fans ran much louder than usual because of high CPU load. When checking for the source of the high CPU usage, I received another hard stop. On any further attempts to start, the same happened as the first time. I started troubleshooting and made several more restarts; the first time the BOOT motherboard light came on, so I powered down and cleared CMOS. The next boot showed the VGA motherboard light lit up, but no output appeared on the screen. System details: Ubuntu 22.04 amd64 Ryzen 7 2700x, 32GB Corsair DDR4-3200 MSI GTX 1660Ti (2), 1080p monitors via HDMI and DP, connected to MSI B450 Tomahawk Max board. I haven’t updated the BIOS since building this PC in December 2019, so my memory is a bit unclear. The Corsair 1TB NVMe SSD with EVGA 80+ 850W PSU was running Chrome, VSCode, Spotify, and Discord at the moment of the crash. This setup has remained stable since my last change when I added two more identical drives to double the RAM from 16 to 32 GB in June 2021. Appreciate any guidance or assistance you can provide!

Disconnect the CMOS battery, detach the power cable from your PC, and press the power button several times. Reinsert the battery and restart the computer.

I managed to start the operating system on the PC, yet it keeps shutting down unexpectedly. Might the power supply unit have been affected by unstable power, leading to sudden shutdowns when high-draw devices are used? Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

Changed the power supply, but it still doesn’t turn on. It works fine with the original PSU. Frustrating.

PSU had a bent pin, I fixed it and the system started up, but it froze again soon after. Probably the motherboard is the issue.

Did you verify that the pump is functioning properly? Overheating your CPU might lead to these interruptions.

Great suggestion – I’ll verify after installing the new mobo. Previously, I saw the pump running at a standard speed in BIOS, but I haven’t confirmed it since the problem began.
