System fails to start after adding a second DDR4 RAM module.
Your computer won’t start when you add an extra 8GB RAM. In BIOS it shows a black screen and jumps to the desktop. Pressing F8 or Delete doesn’t help. Fast boot is disabled in power settings. Your system specs are: EVGA GTX 1650 4GB Biostar X370GTN, Ryzen 5 2400G, OLOy 16GB, 3000mhz, Western Digital 1TB HDD, 250GB SSD Silverstone 450W PSU.
Can it start using just the new stick, and is it placed in the right position?
It starts up using the updated stick. The motherboard seems to support just two slots, and I suspect the system isn’t being allowed to exceed 8GB of memory—possibly in Windows or BIOS settings. Right now, I’m limited to Windows only, but the BIOS keeps failing to load.
I encountered a black screen when attempting to use both sticks. It seems the BIOS is restricted to 8GB RAM, which I believe was the case before. I'm about to test your method and will get back quickly. Edit: Just applied your approach—still no response. Black screen only.
Reset CMOS settings. If unsure, start in BIOS using a single RAM stick and return to the factory defaults.
I’ll check if I can reset the CMOS. When I attempt to boot into BIOS, the monitor only activates when I go directly to "Signing in as Administrator." Pressing F8 or Del doesn’t change the screen. Updated: I cleared the CMOS but inserting the second stick causes an infinite reboot. The motherboard’s LED also fails to turn on with the second stick in. I’m not sure yet, but my DIM2 might be faulty. Edited February 29, 2020 by FL4MT1G3R
