System fails to start after a week of operation
PC components MOBO - asus tuf gaming x670e-plus GPU asus tuf 4090 oc. Most of the fixes were completed without using the GPU. CPU: ryzen 7950x, RAM: kingston fury, DDR5 16GB, 5600MT/s. Used amd expo profile, 4 sticks, KF556C36BBEK2-32 PSU, Corsair HX1200, NVMe Samsung 980 2TB. I built a new PC two weeks ago. It was in use for about a week when I returned from work. It was sleeping, which was unusual since I usually left it on without sleep mode. I moved the mouse and the PC started booting, all fans ran at 100%. After waiting about five minutes, nothing happened—it stuck on the DRAM light. The power button blinked once per second, but I couldn’t find any indication of that. I held the power button to shut it off and turned it back on repeatedly, but without the light. It never came back. After turning it off, I removed power from the PSU, pressed the power button a few times, and the cables were reinserted. The fans started acting oddly, going up and down in a curve. The PC didn’t restart like normal when I first set it up. I left it for several minutes, then tried resetting the CMOS. After that, the fans ran at constant speed. I didn’t think it was resolved. I attempted to flashback the BIOS to the latest beta version, but nothing changed. Trying a different RAM stick in single slot didn’t help. I left it for days. New BIOS updates came, but they didn’t fix anything. After reinstalling the CPU, every RAM stick in a single slot configuration worked, but it never stopped the DRAM light. I removed the motherboard and checked for any burns or issues, but found nothing. Any idea what might be going wrong?
Hey there, I see you're dealing with the same setup issue. Your build looks pretty solid—MOBO ASUS TUF x670e plus GPU, Ryzen 7950X, and all the components are in place. You mentioned gaming last night and it worked fine, but now it's not posting when you turn it on in the morning. You've already tried resetting the BIOS and similar fixes, but nothing seems to help. It’s a bit frustrating since it happens randomly. Let me know if you want some tips or troubleshooting steps!
My PC just began functioning. I tried the complete troubleshooting steps again and, after resetting the CMOS, connecting those terminals on the MOBO resolved the issue. Now I’m unsure if this was just a coincidence or if it actually made a difference... I suppose I’ll never know. At least I can play games now! How are you doing? I’ll keep you updated if it happens again.
Hello @Justas103 ! Such issues often arise after a power cut during sleep or shutdown, and there could be various reasons behind it. Since you've already taken apart the PC, attempt to power it on using only the power cables and the CPU with the cooler connected to the motherboard (leaving drives, fans, and RAM off). If you encounter a different error or message, it might point to one of the connected parts—then reassemble them gradually until you identify the problem. If the same issue persists, it's likely a motherboard fault and I can't give detailed guidance further. Let me know if this helped or if you need more help. Good luck! Cheers! (ノ◕ヮ◕)ノ*:・゚✧
I attempted to start it using just the motherboard cables and CPU by shorting the pins. Then I tried with a single RAM stick, but it didn't work—it kept trying to return the motherboard for repair. It seems there might be an issue with the motherboard itself.
It might be wise to request a replacement if you can. I’m sure that will resolve the issue. Your motherboard stopped working recently too—just before a storm and after power surges—and there was no other option but to swap it out. It’s frustrating, but now I realize I need a reliable UPS to safeguard it. Wishing you success with the RMA process. Cheers! (ノ◕ヮ◕)ノ*
