System fails to power on despite activating UEFI + Legacy settings.
I activated Csm/legacy plus UEFI on my MSP3 gaming plus motherboard, but it stopped working afterward. I have 32gb DDR4 RAM, a Ryzen 7 5800X, an RTX 3070 Ti, and a Be Quiet GPU with 700w power. I followed the manual instructions to reset the CMOS jumper and shortened the pins for 10 seconds and 30 seconds, but the PC still won’t boot. All displays are black, the keyboard and mouse light up, the GPU LEDs flash, and all fans speed up—still no clear path forward.
I initially planned to run Windows 7 with dual booting due to compatibility issues, but now I’m stuck accessing neither BIOS nor the operating system.
Windows 7 functions well with UEFI and does not require Legacy mode. Switching back to legacy mode often leads to complications. To fully reset the CMOS, unplug the power cord from the PSU, remove the lithium battery (CR2032 type), and press the power button a few times. Shorting the pins usually just restarts without much effect. After that, reinsert the battery, reconnect the power cord, and try again. Dual Booting can be challenging; the best approach is to install the older OS first, then the newer one. For Windows 7, consider using a second drive to boot from, ensuring it doesn’t override your bootloader. The Windows 7 bootloader might not recognize Windows 10, so installing it in reverse order usually works better. Alternatively, you could install the GRUB bootloader found on Linux, which also supports Windows but requires booting from a thumb drive into a live Linux environment beforehand.
I also tried both approaches—removing the drives didn’t change the issue, I let the bettery sit for a few minutes while the PC was unplugged and repeatedly pressed the power button, but it still wouldn’t boot. Would trying a BIOS flash be helpful?
I managed to get it running, nothing else seemed to help. Removing the CMOS, unplugging the computer, using the BIOS reset jumper worked, but I’m really happy my motherboard can flash its BIOS without starting the PC. I visited the MSI website, downloaded the latest BIOS, installed it, and everything functioned correctly afterward.
