Hello! I've completed a standard PC reset and still can't get it to boot. The motherboard's white light stays on, pointing to a VGA problem. I inserted my graphics card and another older one into every PCIe slot, but nothing worked. I also tried re-seating the CPU and RAM. The CPU pins aren’t bent, and the RAM pins lack thermal paste. Cleaning the slot with a paintbrush helped the RAM, though—maybe it’s related to hair from the cats. I’ve tested all RAM combinations; one stick and both sticks function in another system. My current setup includes an ASUS ROG STRIX B450-F gaming GPU, AMD Ryzen 5 1600, Corsair Vengeance LPX 3000MHz (2x8GB), and an EVGA GeForce GTX 1660 Twin-Fan Corsair TX550M (550W Gold). Please let me know if you can assist!

You likely meant to describe the extent of your cleaning process. It seems like you went beyond just a quick dusting. Removing components one by one makes it hard to say everything is exactly where it was. Taking it apart adds time, which isn’t ideal. It probably points to a motherboard or CPU issue, since your GPU and RAM are working fine elsewhere. Regarding the POST question, did it shut down right after seeing the VGA light, or did it stay on? Also, why did you choose a B450 board with an older Ryzen?

I believe I bought the parts in 2019. And yes, it was just a dusting + thermal paste replacement. The VGA white light stays on, no video output, system turns off instantly if I press the power button, without delay. I read something about the order you power on your monitor and PC, so I tried switching it up, which also didn't work. If I can get my hands on a friend's CPU or anything like that, I could rule out Mobo; that could take a while though. Anything else you suggest I try?

CPU functions perfectly on another machine. Integrated graphics CPU also operates without issues on my PC's motherboard. But whenever the CPU is placed on my own motherboard, it freezes at VGA. This doesn't make sense.

No, the display is not connected to the graphics card.

You've already tested various ports on your dedicated graphics card.

Your GPU features one HDMI port and three DisplayPort ports. Without a DisplayPort cable, testing might not be possible. Is this the main issue?

I'm checking for basic issues first. I'll verify that all connections are secure, especially the CPU and GPU power cables. It's possible a cable slipped out or became loose during cleaning. Please confirm both ends of each connection.

I inspected every cable and plan to use another power supply, though I’m not sure that’s the issue. Later update: no success. Also, testing POST with a legacy graphics card that doesn’t require external power made it obvious what would happen.
