Hello. Over roughly six months, my PC experienced unexpected reboots during gaming sessions. It's unusual, happening perhaps 3 to 4 times in the past few months. Examining Windows 11 logs revealed numerous critical errors, such as Error Kernel Power 41 (63), occurring about once every two days. My system usually boots normally, yet it consistently logged the same error in the Windows log. After some investigation, it appears the problem lies with the power supply unit. I own a Quiet Straight Power 11 850W PSU, purchased four years ago for its price at that time. My hardware specs include an AMD Ryzen 5900X, MSI X570 MEG (bios current), RTX 4080 FE (no overclocking), and several high-end GPUs. I verified all connections were secure and cables properly plugged in. Windows 11 and drivers are up-to-date; the GPU issue doesn't seem likely since it occurred with a previous GPU. I also performed a clean installation of Windows, but the problem persists. Any advice would be appreciated?
Your power supply shouldn't malfunction with your setup, or problems might stem from a faulty cable from the PSU or the unreliable NVidia 12VHPWR adapter. BQ offers a 5-year warranty (a decent amount for a PSU), so if it's still covered, attempt to return it via RMA.
I purchased a BeQuiet 12VHPWR adapter for my PSU and GPU. However, as mentioned, I already faced this problem with my previous GPU, which was an RTX 2080Ti, so it doesn’t have a 12VHPWR. I might return it for repair, but I want to confirm it’s a PSU issue first. Appreciate your response!
Another person had a comparable problem where the power management of the PSU failed. Occasionally a sudden increase in power usage causes the PSU to malfunction and shut down. It might also be due to poor power quality. Without a line conditioner or an ups converter between the wall and the PC, it’s wise to install one. This can also protect your computer from larger power disturbances like surges, lightning, or brownouts.
Changed the power supply completely and the Windows 11 logs remain problematic. The issue seems linked to RAM or MOBO. Edit: The error code is (70368744177664),(2). After checking, it matches a scenario where I experience this error during my first boot of the day with Windows 11 Fast Startup enabled. It makes sense. I turned off Fast Startup and tried again while playing. The new PSU is Corsair RM1200x SHIFT.
