I swapped my Amd FX 8370's cooler for a Wraith cooler since the old one failed. Now it’s running at 72°C idle and 73°C under load. I double-checked the installation and used fresh thermal paste, and I’m not sure what’s going on anymore.

It appears you're inquiring about the Wraith cooler model. If it's the Wraith Stealth, it may not be suitable for your 8370 due to its high power consumption.

Did you verify the correct mounting brackets for the Wraith and ensure adequate mounting pressure? You might also want to tweak the fan curve in BIOS.

It's not the stealth that matters, but the prism.

Mounting force should be firm but not overly tight; avoid excessive pressure that might harm your mainboard. Varying key inputs during startup (F1, F2, DEL, F11 or F12) can access your mainboard’s BIOS settings. Many current boards let you adjust fan speed based on temperature, which might be useful.

Current readings show a socket temperature of 72°C and CPU temperature at 66°C.

I noticed the issue, I disabled the bracket lever and everything stopped running at 28c and 39c underload.

It occurs. My setup had uneven startup because the primary M.2 slot wasn't correctly positioned. Everyone makes errors. I'm relieved it's resolved.
