I attempted to use my previous GPU and PSU, everything worked initially but then it stopped again. It hasn't happened since this morning, and I've been playing for about 3-4 hours without any issues. Temperatures are normal, there are no error messages, and the problem seems random. I only have an XMP profile enabled and a single RAM stick, which leaves me confused. If this keeps happening often, it would be frustrating. I might need to visit a local tech repair shop.
Probably a RAM stick or PSU. Which one is it? Have you checked the BIOS or chipset drivers?
I used my previous power supply, a Corsair 600W model, which still worked fine. My current PSU is a Corsair RM1000e, more than sufficient for all needs and only a year old. Both the BIOS and chipset are up to date. If there was a RAM or power issue, it wouldn't happen consistently, right? I've been using most of today without any problems.
RAM behavior varies quite a bit, it's not consistent and usually occurs during similar activities like launching programs or watching videos. If you're using more than two sticks, start with dual channel; for just two sticks, use single channel. Test all slots to confirm. Note: Avoid XMP or any overclocking until the problem is fixed.
You've noticed the performance drops are mainly tied to your GPU, especially when running demanding apps. The lag and crashes only appear at full utilization, causing your PC to shut down. Even with your games and media on a second monitor, the spikes persist. It hasn't crashed yet after an hour of playtime, but you're concerned about upgrading. Considering a 20GB+ card could help improve stability.
