I received a message from my friend who reported his computer encountered a Vanguard Error 57 while trying to launch Valorant. The suggested fix was simply to restart the machine. After a few restarts, he tried pressing F8 during startup to access the boot menu, but it didn’t open. He then attempted a reset of the CMOS and used a Windows boot USB drive, though it still stuck on the same error message. The storage drive was removed, and he’s now experiencing the issue again, but much more severely. We’re unsure what’s happening and it’s causing us a lot of worry since the computer was costly. Any advice would be appreciated!

Yes, the system will display 'preparing automatic repair' even after removing the storage drive and booting from a USB installer.

His setup contained two SSDs. One held his installation (C: drive) and the other stored all his games (D: drive). Because the problem began after attempting to play Valorant, he took out the D: drive which held the game. Even when using just the C: drive and the USB, it still freezes, even after instructing the BIOS to boot from USB. I can request him to delete the C: drive and check if that resolves the issue.

this situation seems unrelated to what he was aiming for when things started failing. if you can access BIOS, what are the typical CPU temperatures? does the motherboard support CPU boost or XMP settings? if yes, turn them off. a detailed spec sheet could also be useful.

might be a daft question but is your friend an impatient sort of chap ?? that auto function from windwos can be a pain and often it looks like it has frozen but quite simply busy in the background withoput any visual indication on the monitor. I had an older gigabyte board with an issue and I got fed up thinking I had borked something so went and made my luch....to my surprise I came back 30 minutes later and windows was waiting for a confirmation from me ??

I don't have access to a physical parts list. Could you provide more details or clarify what you're looking for?

Yeah he seems to be mostly restarting it after only waiting for a minute, but he said he waited for it for half an hour at one point and it didn't change

All temperatures shown in the bios are below 35 degrees. I’m not sure gigabyte offers any automatic boost or XMP support, and fast boot remains off by default. The complete parts list can be found here: https://pcpartpicker.com/list/6mLKtn

I asked him to run it just to confirm, and it still freezes even when the USB is the only boot option available.

I had a lot of fun with my neighbor's project when his gigabyte board attempted to exceed its 9900k boost limits (unlucky with the silicon situation), so let's check it out.
