Samsung Magician is not running the benchmark I requested for my G Drive (Samsung 2TB 860 Evo). The SMART Test and Magician health reports look normal, but it’s showing no free space despite having 533GB available. I’m going to take the drive offline temporarily to see if the crashes disappear. No advice needed unless you have better ideas.
I was anticipating some storage errors since missing a dump file signals potential storage problems. I didn’t observe any. Let’s explore other possible causes if it appears to be fine. Encrypted storage, such as BitLocker, prevents the dump process from accessing encrypted data. The dump operation runs outside Windows, limiting its reach. Insufficient storage space is another factor—initial dumps can consume as much RAM plus 3-4GB. In your scenario, that would mean around 35-36GB. Not enough room on the page file. The page file stores dump data on the BSOD screen. If you’ve manually sized it, it must match the amount I mentioned. If it’s auto-sized, keep that setting even if it shows low space; it will adjust as needed. The page file resides on an unusual drive. Typically it’s on the C drive, but it can be elsewhere or across multiple drives. The exact drive doesn’t usually matter, though placing it on a failing drive or an external drive is risky. This setup can lead to missing dumps or crashes. You’ll find instructions here to modify the page file location or verify its current drive. You might also try relocating it to test if it generates dumps on the default C drive.
Thanks for reviewing @Bjoolz. No major mistakes were found, though I did review it early on—just a chat with ChatGPT and no encryption involved. The 'C' drive offers more than 100GB of free space, but I've switched it to write to the 'G' drive now. That should help avoid issues next time. My concern is with the 'G' drive; based on my previous comments, it might be malfunctioning and preventing a system dump. I'll confirm once I disconnect the problematic drive at home.
