Hello there. I just reset my computer and performed a full data wipe, but it still freezes intermittently. After installing the latest Windows update plus an optional one, the issue persists—my PC shuts down randomly, even while streaming on YouTube. I found that using Nvidia Shadowplay to trim game clips causes a brief freeze followed by saving the clip. Running Process Explorer showed spikes in CPU usage to 100% during freezes, and Latencymon confirmed the freeze events. The files involved include "ntoskrnl.exe", "nvlddmkm.sys", and "dxgkrnl.sys". I've updated all drivers, tested a driver booster, and even reinstalled Nvidia drivers. I've disabled services, adjusted the power plan from high to balanced, cleared dust, replaced CPU thermal paste, and disabled XMP in BIOS. I checked my BIOS for updates but found none beyond beta. Additionally, every 8 seconds in CS2 I experience a minor stutter, and sometimes losing Discord audio during freezes forces a restart. I've disabled unused sound devices in the sound control panel but haven't mastered BIOS settings beyond XMP. My hardware specs are: CPU i7-7700K, GTX 1080, motherboard Asus ROG Strix Z270H, Corsair RM1000i PSU, Corsair Vengeance LPX RAM at 3000MHz, 16GB, Hyper 212X CPU cooler, Samsung 850 EVO SSD, Seagate Barracuda 2TB HDD, and Windows 10 Home 64-bit (version 22H2). I'm open to testing any suggestions.
This refers to the brief shutdown that occurred for about a second on the HD Sentinel launch.
I don’t understand those terms. I’ve never done anything like that before. Are you looking for something specific? (Found an article about checking SSD firmware version) Edit: Yes, this is the newest firmware. SSDs aren’t usually optimized or trimmed unless you reset Windows with a data wipe.
Latest Windows releases include built-in trimming features. Simply launch the Disk Defragmenter that comes with Windows. It’s good to have trimming done occasionally, or else a failing SSD can stop working sooner. Also, does your SSD have at least 20% available space?
Yes, a nearly full SSD can lead to issues. Limited free space may affect performance and stability.
