Like the title suggests, I experience unexpected freezes on my computer. Sometimes it shows a blue screen, and the only solution is to restart it completely. Occasionally this happens once a day or multiple times each hour. My system details are: operating system Windows 11 Pro 64 bit, motherboard Gigabyte 970A-D3 rev. 3, CPU AMD FX 6300, RAM Kingston HyperX Fury Black 16GB DDR3-1866MHz (HX318C10FBK2/16) in dual channel mode, GPU Gigabyte GTX 750 Ti 2GB, power supply BeQuiet Pure Power 11 600W, SSD Samsung 860 Evo 500GB. I've tried several fixes so far—clean install of Windows and upgrading to Windows 11 (previously running 10), changed the PSU, re-seated RAM, adjusted channel settings, ran chkdsk /f /r, checked the disc using Samsung Magician, performed a memory test from Windows, verified BIOS version. The latest version is installed, except for a 2015 beta update. I’m considering rolling back to Windows 10 because recently I encountered a bootloop with HYPERVISOR ERROR and SYNTHETIC WATCHDOG TIMEOUT while trying to read dump files. There was also an event viewer log around the time of a freeze. Updated January 9, 2023 by themadskull
During a BSOD, Windows attempts to generate a crash dump file which should be saved in either c:\windows\memory.dmp or the c:\windows\minidump directory (based on your system preferences). A guide on analyzing memory dump files (.dmp) in Windows 10 (helpdeskgeek.com) explains how to examine such files. If multiple dumps exist in the minidump folder, you can compare them to identify recurring issues. Even if a problematic driver is found, your system may not be officially compatible with Windows 11. The CPU might not appear in the supported list, making it hard to locate updated drivers or BIOS support for Windows 11. For that setup, I recommend staying on Windows 10.
