System crash after GPU stress test
Hello! Thank you for your message. I've completed the testing of the memory. I ran memtest86 on each RAM stick separately and across all four slots. Using the recommended slots (2 or 4), I noticed some memory errors—about 36 issues after two passes, with one stick showing no errors until the second pass. Both sticks in the 2nd or 4th slots had problems consistently, mostly affecting Test 7. When trying to use either stick in slot 1 or 3, the system didn't respond and the DRAM light came on. This suggests there might be an issue with the RAM sticks themselves or compatibility. XMP was disabled during testing, so it's running at default settings. It could also point to a CPU controller problem. Since these were bundled with MicroCenter, I'm wondering if they'll send me a replacement or if you think a downgrade to 16GB sticks would be better, especially since those are marked as compatible on the motherboard.
I ended up getting another pair of RAM. It also had memory problems, making me concerned about the CPU or motherboard. By chance, even though the BIOS was set to default, I chose to "Restore BIOS to Default" to check. That change cleared the memory issues completely. After switching back to my original RAM, no errors appeared. I’m assuming the problems were caused by the BIOS update rather than the new RAM itself. Now the system passes stress tests, and the strange restarts and app closures seem resolved. I’ll keep monitoring for any recurrence. Thanks for all the help!
