System Buying Advice
The reviews for the new CPUs have been positive, especially for the Intel Core Ultra 7 265K and the Ryzen 9 7900X models.
Not sure about that specific ultra 7, but some videos about the ultra 5 CPUs suggested upgrading to the 14th generation parts. On the AMD side, I’m still learning on am5 but my 7600x3d works fine. It’s been mentioned these CPUs can run warm, so good cooling is essential. You might want to consider the new 9000 series CPUs. If you’re in the USA and near a Microcenter, they have a bundle with the 7950x available now.
New PC for what purposes? Gaming only? Gaming not at all?
Budget?
The more you lean toward gaming, the more you'd probably lean to AMD...assuming that would be within your budget.
Sounds like you want to buy a fully assembled system rather than build it yourself.
There's a lot of hyperbole surrounding the AMD/Intel debate. It's on you to evaluate that and separate the chaff from the wheat....subject to your own preconceived notions.
The performance difference between a 265K and a 14700K is a few percent. I think the 265K will run a little cooler. Maybe you don't care about any of that.
I enjoy purchasing ahead of trends, since I think a computer lasts longer and stays relevant. I plan to use it for gaming and video, and I want something that works now and remains functional in the future. My budget isn’t a major issue. Regarding cooling, the latest Intel processors are said to consume less power, and many systems I’ve considered include liquid cooling, which shouldn’t pose any issues.
For AMD, the socket AM5 is expected to remain compatible until 2027. Therefore, the positive outcome is that by then, it should be possible to perform a BIOS upgrade and replace with the newest CPU available on the system, extending its usability for several more years.
