System black screen freezing issue
System black screen freezing issue
I built this system in late 2022; it includes a MSI Z690 motherboard, an RTX 3080 LGR video card, an i5 12600k processor, GSkill RAM, a 1000 watt EVGA PSU (around six years old), and a Corsair case. The problem has been happening for the past few months but not consistently. I can go days or even weeks without it. My Corsair LED fans are powered through the PSU, but the LEDs on the fans stop working while the video card fans keep spinning. It usually takes longer than the system freezes before it stops. After a restart, everything seems normal for a week or more, though sometimes it only lasts a day. Since it impacts several parts, I’m unsure where to begin. Could my old PSU be failing?
Consider looking for a stable PSU to replace your current one, around six years old. It might help to borrow or obtain a well-built unit instead of buying new. After that, try running DDU to clear all GPU drivers (Intel, AMD, Nvidia), then reinstall the newest driver from Nvidia's support site using an elevated command, such as right-clicking the installer and selecting Run as Administrator.
Sorry, no access to another PSU. Just bought one instead. It’s tough to figure out if this is related to video drivers. That could impact the fan LEDs and cause system freezes. I think it might not be the video card since I used my GTX 1070 at startup but had similar issues a few days later. Maybe it’s something else, but I won’t know until I check soon.
