Windows functionality is severely limited after logging in. The system barely responds once started, and only a startup window appears. Pressing Win + R sometimes opens the run dialog, but it doesn’t lead to anything usable. Restarts haven’t resolved the issue; the interface remains unresponsive. Occasionally, clicking Brave from the taskbar restores my previous session and open tabs, though navigating elsewhere or opening new windows fails. Previously stable, after updating AMD drivers I was prompted to restart, which seems to be the trigger for the problem. The SSD is an ADATA XPG SX8200 Pro, 5 years old, and running at 512GB with Corsair RM1000X cooling. Specs include Windows 10 Pro, Ryzen 7 5700G, AMD Radeon RX6900XT, and G.Skill Trident Z RGB DDR4.

Yes, you can try loading into safe mode. If possible, remove the GPU driver, restart your system to the standard Windows version, and check whether the issue resolves.

I managed to enter safe mode by pressing shift and clicking restart before logging in, which allowed me to run DDU. However, after it restarted automatically, I can no longer open Brave. Now I can access File Explorer, though it takes a long time to open each time I click the icon. That’s essentially all I’m able to do at the moment.

TL;DR points to Adrenalin 24.1.1 as the culprit. After getting a gift card for Amazon, I upgraded my boot drive and it failed again after installing that version. Once I tried 23.12.1, things stabilized. I also saw others on the AMD subreddit’s tech support thread reporting the same issue.
