When I refer to 5 series, I mean the Ryzen 5000 offering solid IPC improvements compared to the 2600. Whether you prefer more cores depends on which Ryzen model you choose (5,7,9). All AMD CPUs (except a few recent exceptions) can be overclocked unless you push them too hard with voltage or heat. My two gold coins have been heavily overclocked, and if I sell one, I’ll highlight that in my listing—unless it’s not a major overclocker, I’ll keep it understated. I’ve had two 1700s tuned extremely well. If I decide to sell them later, I’ll definitely share their Cinebench scores. A jump from 2600 to 5600 gives single-core gains around 25% per core.
I own a Ryzen 5 1600af, which is essentially the same as a 2600. I discovered it's quite capable of overclocking, reaching about 4.1 ghz, and so far I haven<|pad|> have not encountered any AAA games that can't run due to CPU limits.
I see, sorry for misunderstanding Ryzen 5 and 5000. Ryzen 5000 series surely are a step forward over the 2600, unlike the 3600. I think I prefer to settle for a Ryzen 7 or 9, but the 5600X is also on my list once it's at MSRP and readily available. I'm debating my choice whether how the market runs and how the prices will change on the past gen Ryzens, either new or secondhand. The OC potential can be a selling point as well actually. Looks like you hit the silicon lottery on your 1700s, that's great! 5600X is very interesting for single core performance. I need to check benchmarks if I would choose it over more cores/threads. Sadly the Ryzen 7 5800X is out of my reach for now. It's very similar indeed. Today it's still a very capable processor and much better than the 4 core Ryzen 5s from the first gen Ryzen. Used to have my i7 running at 3.9ghz, which I believe is my 2600 running too right now. Gladly there's headroom for overclocking, unlike the newer Intels. I'm kind of curious how much more I can get out of the 2600 with an OC. For now I'm glad how it runs, I might get into overclocking later on when I feel like to.
