Switching the game server for your routing
Switching the game server for your routing
I live in Sweden and have some friends who live in Asia. I usually play Valorant with them on Bahrain servers and get 109ms ping. But a week ago I started getting 150ms instead. By contacting support I found out that they changed the routing to the servers and were unwilling to change it back due to one user (obviously). But when I use exitlag to connect to Bahrain servers the ping is back to 109ms stable. Exitlag connects through Milan, Italy to Bahrain . I was wondering if there was any way I could use the same routing without having to use exitlag and paying for the membership.
You are very lucky because exitlag works for you. It takes a specific type of luck because the extra delay isn't caused by your connection point but by where your server or router is located. If your exitlag server is in another country, it usually makes almost no difference to most people in places like Europe or the US. However, this service mostly matters in Asia. Some internet providers there don't have access to the best undersea cables. It's surprising that even major game companies didn't notice this change when they switched their internet service providers at one of their data centers. Exitlag is a special kind of VPN company. They buy optimized routes from ISPs on fiber networks, which means they get a dedicated private path through the fiber, even though it looks like a form of private network sharing the same internet as public traffic and is called MPLS (Multiprotocol Label Switching). This costs a little bit more to get the ISP in that route to sell you priority. They make back this money through their monthly fees. There isn't really any free way to fix this. Maybe you could use a different ISP at your house with better or different routing options, but figuring out which one works best requires actually trying several ISPs. You might find a cheaper VPN company, but unlike exitlag, most others don't have their own private network connecting their data centers; they just try to hide your IP address instead of improving performance. If it's important to you and exitlag is the only thing that solves this problem, then it's probably your best choice. You should be glad you even have a solution for this issue.
