You're using Windows 10 with an external RAID 1 USB HDD containing two 2TB drives. After switching back from Linux, the drive became recognized as raw and then caused problems again. You can still boot into Linux from the USB, but it doesn't mount properly. When you run chkdsk in Windows, it reports access denied and a warning about the file system type. The system seems to be stuck in a recovery loop without resolving the issue. Since troubleshooting on Linux didn't yield results, you're looking for ways to recover data without reformatting. Consider checking backup copies, using third-party tools like DiskDigger or EaseUS Data Recovery, or consulting professional data restoration services.

Have you considered duplicating the storage to a different SSD or HDD? Transferring the files might make them available again.

I don't have another 2TB drive to clone the data onto but there is much less data than even 1TB on the drive so I could possibly clone it onto my 1TB internal if I don't need to reserve the full 2TB of space. I tried using Recuva but a lot of the .txt files (which are the most important part for me) are coming back with nonsense characters, and there are many files I'm not seeing at all. It's also a pain that it recovers every file into a single directory although I could deal with that if at least it brought back all the files. EDIT: I'm also a bit hesitant to run chkdsk outside of read-only mode but if it will help I can get another 2TB drive to clone the data onto, that way if anything happens during the chkdsk I wouldn't lose the original state of the RAW drive. Of course I'd prefer to try any other non-invasive solutions first, if possible.
