I'm connected through start.ca (Rogers network) using a 250mb down, 25mb up plan. Often I only got around 60mb down, sometimes it vanished completely. I assumed the problem was with the Rogers network; the podium cover was missing, leaving the inside open to the weather. I didn’t fix anything until recently. I’d just restart the modem and router every few days when the connection would drop. Last weekend I finally gave up and started searching for a new modem. I swapped my Hitron CDA3-20 for a Technicolor TC4400-AM. Downloading with the old model rarely pushed speeds past 2MB/s, but now with the new one I’m hitting about 30MB/s. I hope I hadn’t delayed enough and would have saved everyone a lot of frustration with such slow internet.

Ofcourse, it's a massively different technology, docsis 3.1 is 10x the speed and more channels. docsis 3.0 been around for ages, really not suitable for more than 100mbps.

Docsys 3.0 supports speeds up to roughly 600-700Mbps, though it can theoretically reach gigabit levels. However, channel limitations are currently a constraint.
