Recently, a short occurred on my old laptop's motherboard, so I had to replace it with a new one. The new laptop has a faulty hard drive, and I need to transfer the necessary data from my old laptop's hard drive to the new one. I want to avoid formatting the old drive and losing everything, so I'm hoping to move only the required files from the new hard drive to the old one to enable booting up the new laptop.

No, a Windows installation isn't divided into modules like that.

You don't have to reinstall Windows since it's already installed on the previous hard drive. The system boot software should work fine. For this situation, a fresh OS install isn't necessary—just want to keep using your old hard drive without reformatting or losing data.

When transferring a drive between distinct systems, particularly laptops...it's often necessary to reinstall Windows.
