I possess a Windows 8.1 setup on my drive with BIOS configured for UEFI. I need to install Windows 7 but must convert the MBR if I want to proceed. To format the drive for GPT conversion, there’s no direct way to preserve the data instantly. You’d typically need to create an ISO or use a recovery tool, though this process can be time-consuming. If you prefer not to wait, consider using a live USB to boot into Windows and perform the conversion manually.

The optimal choice is to save your setup to an external hard drive and perform a clean installation. It’s unclear exactly what you’re asking, but using the Windows backup tool will copy your current system into a single file—similar to storing it on a hard drive with excessive compression. Formatting a drive to GPT won’t preserve its data, unfortunately.
