Hello. I'm thinking about getting a Ryzen 5600X to replace my older 1700. I'm using an ASRock x370 Fatal1ty Professional Gaming board, which supports Vermeer CPUs via unofficial firmware. I'm curious if I'll need a higher-end CPU like the 3600 to properly install it through the bridge versions. My BIOS is currently at v. 5.30 or 5.80, but newer versions warn me about potential issues with older Ryzen models. If anyone has advice, it would be really helpful!
Consider a 3700X that aligns with the price range. It offers two additional cores compared to the 5600X, though each core performs slightly less efficiently—about 10-20%. No compatibility concerns are expected. You won’t be reducing your core count from 8 to 6.
Watch the video until the finish. You’ll likely get better choices soon and official support for Zen3.
These are some great choices for handling my workload =) Thanks a lot! It seems okay to hold off just in case anyone tries to run an older Summit Ridge CPU after the BIOS update and share their results, as that could be helpful.
Today I updated the BIOS and installed the R5 5600. It works fine overall, though the newest BIOS restricts PCIe to gen3 and below. I ran a 30-minute CPU-Z stress test and everything held up well. The thermal performance is solid and it didn’t trigger a BSOD, so... a success, aside from the PCIe limitation.
